Other positions of Mr. Alazraki include Manager for Latin America at West Merchant Bank in London and Manager of Foreign Trade at the Mexico Commodities Company (CONASUPO). After completing his collegiate studies in the United States (B.S.: Geological Engineering, University of Oklahoma, M.S.: Geology, University of Tulsa), Mr. Aydemir joined TPAO Exploration Department, and has been working in TPAO since 1987. He was involved in several exploration and development projects mainly in Southeast Turkey and Kazakhstan oilfields. He was promoted as Offshore Western Black Sea Manager in 1999. He has since, of Operator’s and Majority stakeholders’ manager led the drilling of deepest-water offshore wells in Turkey to date and development of first offshore gas fields in the Black Sea. His specialty is working with several companies and branches in the oilfield. While managing joint projects with ARCO, BP, and Toreador in Turkey at various times, he also managed all aspects of an integrated effort involving exploration, drilling and production sides of the business. Mr. Aydemir, in addition to managing several joint projects, managed TPAO’s own exploration efforts in the Black Sea. The very aggressive 50000 km 2D plus 5000 sq km 3D seismic campaign led by him between 2004 and 2007 opened up totally new vistas in a previously unknown basin. Mr. Aydemir continues to lead the Western Black Sea team at the present time and intends to carry it to the mastery of ultra-deep water realm of the Black Sea.

Dr. Fatih Birol is Chief Economist and Head of the Economic Analysis Division of the Paris-based International Energy Agency. He is organiser and director of the World Energy Outlook series, the IEA’s flagship publication. He worked for six years in the Secretariat of the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) in Vienna, before joining the IEA in 1995. The World Energy Outlook (WEO) series is widely recognised as the most authoritative source for world energy information and medium to long-term energy projections and analysis. In recent years, the World Energy Outlook has received a number of honours for analytical excellence. In October 2006, he was made a Chevalier dans l'ordre des Palmes Academique by the French Government in recognition of his distinguished services to the field of energy economics. In March 2007 he was presented with the Golden Honour Medal of the Austrian Republic in recognition of his outstanding contribution to the understanding of global energy issues, first at OPEC and now at the IEA.

Fadhil Jafar Chalabi was born in Baghdad, Iraq in September 1929. After graduating with a BA in Law from Baghdad University in 1951, he took up a post with the Iraqi Ministry of National Economy, and between 1956 and 1958, he obtained two postgraduate diplomas in Political Economy from the Université de Poitiers in France. Between 1960 and 1962, he obtained a doctoral degree in Economics from the Paris University with a dissertation on oil economics. His professional involvement in oil began early in 1968, when he was appointed Director of Oil Affairs at the Ministry of Oil in Baghdad. He was chosen for the office of Permanent Under-Secretary of Oil in 1973, leaving after three years to join OAPEC as Assistant Secretary General. By 1978, Dr Chalabi held the office of Deputy Secretary General of OPEC in Vienna, acting for the Secretary General himself from July 1983 until June 1988. He finally departed in summer 1989 to assume his present position of Executive Director of the newly-established Centre for Global Energy Studies in London, founded and chaired by former Saudi Arabian Oil Minister, Sheikh Ahmed Zaki Yamani. Fadhil Chalabi was charged with a variety of policy-making responsibilities during the time he spent in his native Iraq, many of which were oil related, and which included membership of the Board of Directors both of the Iraq National Oil Company (1968-76), and the Central Bank of Iraq (1971-1976). He also served on sundry Government boards and Commissions associated with oil finance, economics, etc. He is the author of two books: OPEC and the International Oil Industry: A Changing Structure (Oxford University Press 1980); and OPEC at the Crossroads (Pergamon 1989). In addition, he has written several articles on energy and oil economics, and is a worldwide speaker at numerous energy and oil seminars and colloquia.

Leo Drollas currently holds the twin positions of Deputy Director and Chief Economist at the CGES, where he is in charge of all the publications and most of the studies produced by the Centre. Leo Drollas also contributes papers in his own right and has dealt with subjects as diverse as oil inventories and prices, oil prices in the long run, the demand for aviation turbine kerosene, US gasoline demand, oil’s shipping needs, oil export tariffs, oil prices and production, oil capacity utilisation and oil prices, oil pipeline tariffs, OPEC’s oil-quota policies, Asian tiger oil demand, the connection between desired oil stockcover, oil futures prices and the effect of oil prices on economic growth. Leo Drollas has co-authored with David Long of Oxford Petroleum Research Associates a major CGES study on the strategic hedging activities of oil companies. Leo Drollas has written many articles and studies on oil, energy and the economy in general, and has completed a book on oil with Jon Greenman called “Oil – the Devil’s Gold”. He has spoken at numerous conferences on diverse oil-related subjects, including the oil market in the short and long term, Asian oil demand, oil’s role in power generation, the oil futures markets, global warming and non-OPEC oil supplies. Phillip Ellis joined Willis in March 2006, bringing with him a wealth of knowledge and experience working with energy and energy-related clients around the world. Prior to joining Willis, Phillip served six years with the Boston Consulting Group as leader of their Oil and Gas Practice. Prior to BCG, Phillip was with Booz Allen & Hamilton, for over 13 years where he last headed up their Energy Practice for Europe and the Middle East. He has a history of growing significant new business and international teams. He has led a number of industry-changing programmes during his career. These have included reorganising the upstream headquarters of a major oil company, developing the privatisation strategy for a European national oil group and leading the design of the world’s largest gas development scheme in the Middle East. Phillip also designed and led a crisis scenario on gas supply to Europe for a major oil company which anticipated major risks and opportunities now facing the industry. He recently led a global benchmarking of investment criteria, methods and decision-making culture in the upstream oil industry, enrolling sixteen of the world’s most prominent oil companies in the programme. He has also been engaged in helping a large oil group develop new business in the Middle East. He covered of about forty years of service in different industrial fields as follows: From 1969 to 1978 he worked as Technical Director of various Iranian industrial companies. In 1978 he became a member of the board and Deputy Managing Director of Iran Khodro Company. In 1979 he became Minister of Labor and Social Affairs. In 1980, he was appointed as Minister of Mines and Industries. In 1981, he took over as the Deputy Prime Minister. In the same year he served as the director, General Production and Infrastructure affairs and advisor to the Head of Planning and Budget Organization. From 1982-1985 H.E. Willy H Olsen is an oil and gas advisor to the Norwegian Oil and Gas industry after retiring from Statoil. He is also an Associate Research Fellow at Royal Institute of International Affairs in London. Willy H Olsen had a number of positions during his 23 years with Statoil, including Managing Director of Statoil UK Ltd and Senior Vice President for Statoil’s activities in the Caspian. He was for several years a senior advisor to the President& CEO of Statoil and was head of the President's Office before his retirement. He is an educated economist and spent 15 years in journalism before joining Statoil in 1980.

Lawrence Pope is Executive Vice President of Administration and Chief Human Resources Officer for Halliburton and is a member of Halliburton’s Executive Committee. He has global leadership responsibilities for Human Resources; Health, Safety and Environment; Sustainable Development; Operational Excellence; Security; Real Estate Services; and Corporate Aviation. Mr. Pope began his career with Halliburton in 1990 as a recruiter with Kellogg, Brown & Root (KBR). He progressed to Manager of Compensation and Human Resources Systems in 1996 and was then promoted to Director of Compensation and Human Resources Systems for Halliburton. After becoming Director of HR for Halliburton’s Energy Services Group (ESG) in 1999, he was promoted to Division Vice President of HR for the ESG in 2001. Mr. Pope then served as Senior Vice President of Administration for KBR and as Halliburton’s Vice President of Human Resources and Operational Excellence. Mr. Pope holds a bachelor’s degree in economics from the University of Texas at Austin and a master’s degree in business administration from the Jones Graduate School of Management at Rice University. He is a graduate of Halliburton’s President’s Seminar (now called the President’s Leadership Excellence Program) and a Certified Compensation Professional.

Patrick Pouyanné, 43, is a graduate of France’s Ecole Polytechnique and Ecole des Mines of Paris. From 1989 to 1996, he held several positions in the French Industry Ministry, then at the Cabinet of the Prime minister as Advisor for Environment and Industry (1993-1995) and Head of Cabinet of the Minister for Telecommunications and Information Technologies (1995-1996). He joined the Group in 1997 as General Secretary in Angola. In 1999 he was appointed Group Representative and General Manager of the E&P subsidiary in Qatar. In August of 2002, he became Senior Vice President Finance Economics Information Systems for Exploration and Production and Member of the E&P Management Committee. Luis Vierma has a bachelor’s degree in Chemistry from Universidad Central de Venezuela (1978) and a master’s degree in Geology (Petroleum Geochemistry) from Indiana University (1984). Between 1975 and 1978 he was a professor of the Chemistry Department of Universidad Central de Venezuela. From 1978 to 1981 he was an Exploration Geochemist in PDVSA’s Research Center in Caracas. Between 1981 and 1984 he was appointed Research Assistant in the Department of Geology at Indiana University. He was then appointed: Head of the Geochemistry Laboratory in PDVSA’s Exploration Center, Hydrocarbons Exploration Project Leader in PDVSA’s Exploration Center, and Head of the Inorganic Geochemistry Unit. In 1993 he was manager of Exhibit XIII, Agreement between the Minister of Energy and Mines of Venezuela and the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) in Microorganic Crude Enhanced Recovery. In 1995 he was Head of the Geochemistry Section of PDVSA’s Exploration Center. In 1997 he was Head of the Geology Section and in 1998 he was appointed Exploration Business Manager. In 2000 he was appointed Director of the Office of Policies and Plans of the Vice Ministry of Hydrocarbons of the Ministry of Energy and Mines. In 2002 was the General Director of Hydrocarbons of the Ministry of Energy and Mines. Since 2003 he has been Deputy Minister of Hydrocarbons (Ministry of Energy and Mines). Also, in March 2003 Luis Vierma was named Director in the Board of Directors of Petróleos de Venezuela S.A. (PDVSA). Then, in August 2003 Luis Vierma was appointee to be the President of an affiliate of PDVSA, Petroleum Venezuelan Corporation (CVP), and in 2004 was named President (acting) of INTEVEP, an affiliate of PDVSA in research, technology and science affairs. In January 2005 has been appointed as Vice-president of Exploration and Production of PDVSA.
